I ain't giving them country boys Nothing!!!

Bernard Jeffrey McCullough (October 5, 1957-August 9, 2008)

NOT BERNIE MAC! Who else are we left to rely on for that natural comedic feel from the black experience. The only likely heir, in my mind, is Mike Epps. That being said, I only wanted to chime in and create my own memoir of what is lost. I never met the guy, but I guess his edginess was so familiar through film and routine that it feels like I've personally lost something.

Comedy often times gets me through my day. I guess that's why i had Bernie Mac's segment from "The Original Kings of Comedy" on my iPod at one time. I don't think there was a role that I can remember him playing where he didn't add (often times needed) energy, spice, and charisma that help make the films memorable. I hope I will try not to ruffle the feathers of any Richard Pryor fans, but we may have lost one of the greatest black comedic figures EVER.

Last I heard, Mike Epps was to be staring as Richard Pryor in a 'biopic'. I've been waiting patiently for 2+ years. Perhaps like Pryor we will have to wait 20 or so years before another talent comes along with the natural charisma to play Bernie Mac in film. I'm not just mourning. We are talking about the poor man's Bill Cosby here. TV Guides's #47 ranked TV father. Comedy Central's #72 ranked stand up comedian. Underrated, overly talented. Hey that's the story of my life...

I'm so thankful to have the greatest stylist in the world as I get ready to embark in a busy weekend. I'm still working on "Altitude" with super producer NYSE. Fate Eastwood produced my new single "Crazy" featuring Lil' Wayne. And I've been doing freestyles and cranking out records like a prize fighter sparring before a big fight. The evidence will present itself. Even through this BLOG. STAY TUNED...

And lighten up, Bernie Mac's joke at Obama's dinner wasn't nearly as bad as Jesse Jackson's comments directed towards Barack.

BIOGRAPHY (As scribed from an observant soul)

"December 15th, '84 A Star was born..."

That opening line from his double disc Street Album "$tarlito's Way 2" doesn't begin to explain "The Jermaine Shute experience". The opening track, approximately 6 minutes in length, attempted to summarize his life. A challenge to say the least. The same could be said for his life and career. Born and Raised in Nashville, TN (the Eastern Side to be specific) graduated school via the Magnet School programs, attended college for two years, and likewise excelled as a street scholar. His time as a youth was divided evenly between scholastics, athletics, and pain. In the environment commonly referred to as "the hood", options are often few and far between. A good student often has to spend more time studying then reaping the benefits, especially financially. Athletically, you stand a less than 1 percent chance of making it even with exceptional talent. The pain of a young man raised by a single mother, witnessing the alternate route (hustling), witnessing a slain step-father to be, losing both uncles (one to the prison system for 20 years to Life and the other to a terminal illness) , and dealing with heightened expectations drove a young man nearly crazy, but even further it drove him toward the streets and the ink pen. The Streets led to the usual...trouble. The ink pen led to the goal....Money, Cash Money to be exact. At 20, after spending a little over a year releasing a series of self-executed straight to the streets mixtapes, he inked a deal with Yo Gotti's inevitable Ent. leading to a chance meeting and eventual multi-million dollar deal with Cash Money/Universal Motown. In the time since, with the unfortunate circumstances of Hurricane Katrina, his solo career has seesawed from near stardom to a near stand still. The death of a close friend, and the slight depression that followed altered his life, work ethic, and lead to even more legal troubles. Nevertheless, talents speaks volumes louder than controversy just as perseverance outweighs adversity. All Star, awarded SEA mixtape artist of the year 2005 & 2006, never ceased to release the quality music that took him from local to regional. Based on the quality body of work assembled through both his Grind Hard Series and the Starlito's Way Series, with a little push from Universal Records he is poised and prime to go just that...Universal.

His Grind Hard entity has expanded from a hood movement to an enterprise; with associated Music Group, Multimedia Management, and clothing line. When you get past the often non descript yet tattooed image, you find a charming ambitious humanitarian. His initiatives/goals include a voting drive, and a scholarship fund. In his own words, "Stardom transcends appeal. (you're)...the only one who can identify truth within yourself, so everything else besides your moral responsibility is irrelevant." A Star shines, and some people are born for this, with that being said December 15th A Star was born. All Star that is.
